What is the right call when reporting an illegal screen in NCAA and NFHS? Is it an illegal block, pick, or screen

Well there is no particular call as an "illegal screen" under either code. You have a block, a push or in some cases a hold.

Screens can be illegal obviously, but you do not have a particular call that is called "illegal screen." You signal the actual action that happened like I stated.

Hope that helps.

Peace

If the screener doesn't allow time and distance, I use the block signal.

If the screener is in a legal position but pushes, I use the push signal.

I do it this way, too, but if the coach looks confused -- I should say more confused than usual -- I will sometimes do the totally wrong thing and say some words as I signal, which are, "Illegal Screen, Coach."

Juulie, I don't have a problem with the term "illegal screen." I would have a problem with the term "moving screen." But if a screen isn't legal, isn't it an "illegal screen?" :)

Wasn't that you that liked the term "moving screen?"

Not true - absence of proof is not proof of absence.

A screen may not be legal, but it is not illegal until contact occurs. :)

If no contact is made, then the screen is legal.

Rut, it most certainly was not me. Oh, wait, was this more sarcasm? Now I'm the one with a confused look on my face.

Tony, I usually don't say anything unless the foul is away from the ball. It's been hard for me to learn to look off-ball, but it's even tougher for coaches, and they never see the fouls away from the ball.
