Back in the day when I reffed LOTS, I would do football and basketball in the same day quite a bit. One time I observed a ball carrier step on the out of bounds line at which time I ran up, stopped the clock, and spotted forward progress with my foot. While this is a valid mechanic, it is so in football, and not basketball.

I felt pretty "worse" then.

Have you ever called traveling in a football game...for running with the ball?

I knew a guy who worked lots of sports and he told me that once during a football game, the QB faked a pass and he (the official) almost called a balk, just out of habit.
