NBA Officials get a salary, they are not paid on a game by game fee basis. They can only work 3 games a week. I cannot tell you what they get for Playoff or Finals games. I am sure someone here has that information.

Peace

The starting salary used to be around $85,000 for a rookie. I am under the impression that has gone up over 6 figures. There is more money to those that have experience and years under their belt and the last I heard they can make nearly $300,000 a year. I have no idea if this is still the case, but that is what I remember. I cannot remember what they are paid for post season games.

Peace

NBA officials annually earn a salary ranging from $90,000 to $300,0000. I believe Officials in the NBDL are paid around $500 per game. I'll ask NBDL supervisor of officiating George Toliver about it.

Tim Donaghy would earn more than other officials with similar experience.

The $300K for the top guys sounds right, given that once I looked into it and it was reported that the top guys made $255K - but that was years ago - possibly around '01 or maybe even '99/'00. And for some reason, an amount of $77K sticks in my head for the rooks.

It's less than that but they get travel and per diem.

Yeah, but that figure doesn't include, uhm, "endorsements."

Tim Donaghy was in the NBA for 13 seasons. If 85K was the starting salary for rooks back in '94, and 240K is true for his salary in this last season, then his annual raise ammounted to just under 8.5%. Not including uhm, "endorsements."

They also make quite a bit by selling foul insurance.

Would a referee get paid more for a finals game compared to a first round playoff game or is it all consistent?

I don't know, but go here if you want to submit a resume to become an NFL coach or official.
