Age and Experience
OK so this thread is simple...
Post your age and how long you've been officiating for. And if you want to "toot your own horn" you could post the level at which you officiate. Il go first. I'm 19, been officiating basketball for 4 years (since I was 15) and now I'm about to start my first year at the high school level. |

My name is Damien and I'm 14. I've been active at all levels since I was born. I know where you live. |

Maybe we can make it simpler.
What is your name? What is your quest? What is your favorite color? |

Welcome to the forum, CaRef. Not sure why people don't want to answer you, but I will. I'm 40(ish), been reffing for 15 years, and I do some D2/D3 college ball.
You have a big advantage over a lot of us in that you started very young. I hope your first HS season is exciting. Make sure you keep checking in here and let us know how it's going. |

After the end of 1 inning the score is Scrappy 1, JR nothing.
We'll return after these messages. |
JR gets pwned by Scrappy. :D

For those wondering.... Pwn (/poʊn/, /puːn/, /pəʔˈoʊn/, /pɔːn/, /piˈoʊn/, /pwəʔˈn̩/) is a leetspeak slang term, derived from the word "own",[1][2][3] that implies domination or humiliation of a rival, used primarily in the Internet gaming culture to taunt an opponent who has just been soundly defeated. Past tense is sometimes spelled pwnt (pronounced with a t sound), pwned, pwnd, pwn3d, or powned (with the standard d sound). Examples include "pwnage" or "you just got pwned". Next thing you know we'll be doing "First" |
I didn't know that, Larks.
Somehow, after reading that, I now feel....whole. Or maybe I just wet myself again...... |
First!

I'm young like yourself. I'm 22 and officiate all levels except NAIA and D3. the guys make a good point about ppl making up whatever they want to and so some ppl might lie to u about what they ref. but just take it for what it is, the internet, and for the most part you can take ppl on here at their word if they ever decide to take your thread seriously and post their exp. which I doubt will happen. Good luck to you in your officiating endeavors. |

Regardless of what type of league it is, call it both ways (metric?) |
Quote:
Exactly. Take the term "Varsity", for example. There are people who say they work "Varsity" when, in reality, the have never worked an official HS "Varsity" game. The term is used very loosely....to refer to games with Varsity-aged players, rec games with players who have played on a "Varsity" teams, or even games that some rec. leagues call "Varsity" with no connection whatsoever with what most people consider to be "Varsity". How do you know what a person has really worked? Hard to tell. However, when someone claims to have worked high level games and tends to throw around that info, chances are that they're being liberal with the description...worked a rec. league or summer game with a couple high-level players. Most people who really work legitimate college games don't go around advertising it all the time. |
OK so i started this thread HOPING some "officials" on this website could take it a bit seriously... obviously that didnt happen especially with the first few replies that were posted....
Anywho, for those who tried to take it seriously... thanks. |

It also makes no matter what level you officiate. There are top, bottom and average officials at all levels. Read the forum regularly. You'll soon know who you can learn from and who's full of crap. And don't think for one minute that you can dictate who others post. That's not up to you. Good luck and welcome! |

Since I live in the U.S. it would be highly unlikely that I would work FIBA, so you can scratch that one as well. Everything else seems to be right on.;) |
Quote:
Quite a few U.S. D1 and NBA oficials have also obtained a FIBA rating and have worked FIBA tournaments over the years. To do so, you have to meet FIBA requirements re: camp evaluation, exams passed, age restrictions, etc. It ain't that easy in the larger countries to obtain a FIBA rating and be qualified for international games. |

Since you know how the NBA system works, check where one of the four group supervisors for the referees lives. ;) |

Props to Juggles for using pwn. Now all you need is a thread comprised soley of AOL speak and this thread will be cemented in the annals of Hades. ;) Hey, Jurassic, how do I become an esteemed (or is it steamed? I never got that clarified) member of the peanut gallery? Do I need to purchase a silt and mud stamp? |

BTW, I'm 65 (as of this past May), I officiated for 22 years (basket ball) and 27 years (soccer), and my highest level in both sports was HS varsity. I say "was" as I no longer officiate. It came down to a choice of replacing both knees, or continue officiating. I chose to keep my current knees, even though going up a long flight of stairs causes me to periodically learn new "forms of expression", as in &%^*!!! that hurts! |

Great thread. Thought there was the danger of it turning into OOOA or something like that.

sorry once again it's semantics, but I meant the new guys get 80% nba games and 20% D-League games. Once they get hired they always work way more nba games than D-League games. What does where one of the supervisors live have to do with anything? |

http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/browse Before they started to update it, it showed him doing about 4 games in a very small D1 conference. I forgot which one but it doesn't matter. Interestingly enough, his name doesn't show up on this site though: http://www.bbstate.com/officials/ That is possibly just an oversight. Note also that the immortal Bhuck Elics shows up on both sites. |

An additional point is why not ask for weight and what high school we graduated from? This isnt a social board, its a rules and mechanics board. We talk basketball....1 annual baseball thread....and sometimes squirrels. I agree with the former poster that said it doesn't matter how old you are and it's kind of taboo to bring it up. Im sure officials lead men's demographics in men's hair dye purchases if you know what I mean. So age wont be discussed Level - A - doesn't matter / can get someone in trouble and B - wont be discussed because in general, most of the good ones dont go throwing around what they are working. It comes off arrogant. Dont get me wrong, I was talking with a big hitter here in Cincy today and he LOVES to talk about his schedule so there are some out there that will. Thus we have a thread that has disintegrated into pwnage and FIRST. Having said all that..... SECOND!! |
