Question about new rule - but (probably) not what you think.
Do any of you anticipate going into gyms this coming season and not having the fourth space on the FT lanes marked at the "far" boundary of the space? If you see that, what would you do? Ask the game administration to get out the masking tape, or just remind players that there is a limit to the dimensions of the space, or something else?
We've checked the gyms our local rec league uses and 5 out of 7 have no marking there. |
I've worked on at least one that was missing the last mark. Wasn't a problem. The kids know about how much space they have. Worked on one makeshift floor at a camp this last week that didn't have any markings along the lane. We just made do the best we could, and again didn't have any problems.
The new rule requires it to be there, obviously. But is it really that important if it's not? |

Lines, Lines, Everywhere Lines ...
I'm positive that we'll have problems. Many high school gyms in the area that our local board services still don't have the line three feet from the block toward the endline, which of course we won't need starting next year. Many don't have the "shadow" line through the logo in the jump ball circle. Many don't have an "X" for substitutes, although I believe that this is an option, not mandatory. We're still having problems with coaching boxes, thus, the special Connecticut rule: Coaching Box must be marked. If home coach and/or home management refuse to designate coaching box with tape, the home team will not use a coaching box for that game. However, the visiting team will be allowed a coaching box. Notify Board Secretary or Commissioner the next day.
