Dick Bavetta under Federal Investigation

What are your thoughts regarding the accusations made by Tim Donaghy toward Dick Bavetta?

I don't remember much about the 2002 Kings/Lakers game except that I remember a lot of griping about the officiating. Seems like there was a pretty questionable foul call during a wild 3 pt. attempt by Kobe.

I think Dick Bavetta has had a wonderful career and is probably one of the most respected officials for his ability to communicate with the players and coaches. I hope that these accusations isn't what people remember about Dick's career.

My understanding, and it's just what I heard on the radio, is that an other official was questioned regarding Bevetta and Donaghy. The answer to the questioners was that the official had not noticed anything unusual. I hadn't heard that the "investigation" went further than that, though.

...well OBVIOUSLY whatever he was being asked about was outside of his primary (hey I'm having some fun with this now)

For what it is worth, here is my two cents. Tim Donaghy is so afraid of becoming somebody's girl friend in prison that he will say anything whether it is true or not to save his a$$. The thought of NBA officials controling the outcome of a game much less a series is absurd.

I wonder if he'll remember the mechanic for "illegal use of hands". BTW - do they call "over the back" and "reaching" in prison?

Hopefully not...as they are likely to occur at the same time there.

The investigation will have to be put on hold as Dick is refereeing tonight's Game 5.

I feel asleep at half-time. In the first half, Dick looked like he called a good game. How did the second half go?

Or..

Game 5 won by the Lakers, delaying Boston's championship.
Game 5 refereed by Bavetta.

Coincidence? I think not! Stern's plan is unfolding properly!

While I am 95% in agreement...there is the part of me that says "He has no real motivation to lie now since he was probably going to get the minimum anyway."

As someone who officiates, I hope he is the first and last name on the list of NBA officials who were involved. However, most groups have the same characteristics of population as a whole...so the odds are decent there are others.

I just don't see how a series can be fixed...it is impossible to predict how a team will shoot. Thus the odds of getting caught and destroying the goose that is laying the golden eggs is high. But lets face it, dumber things have been attempted.
