How far do we run?

How many miles do we run in an average game? 1? 2?

I think the most recent RefMag had an article on this. As I recall, one guy wore a pedometer for 7 gmaes (or so), and the average was 2+ miles. Still, it's over 75 minutes (about), so it's not much of a pace.

2-man, 2 1/2 miles. 3-man, 1 2/3 miles, for me when I used a pedometer.

It's nice to see that 2 x 2˝ = 3 x 1.6(repeat).

That is interesting, and I wouldn't have guessed that there'd be roughly five miles of running total regardless of whether there are two or three officials.

Ditto, on both accounts.

What level of ball and the type of games did you work while using the pedometer? Each game varies.

I usually average about half a block. And that's just when I walk off the court at halftime.

I was told there was a study done on this recently. It estimated that a college Men's official ran about 4.2 miles each game (longer court). And it estimated that HS officials likely ran around 3.2 miles. Of course this conversation was in passing and I do not have the reference to the exact study. This was just talked about as to how much running we do and how level changes. I guess on average the Women's sides run less at each level.

Peace
