On the CBS show, "First Monday", tonight, they portrayed a basketball game between the Department of Justice team and a team representing the Supreme Court. One of the Supreme Court justices was a referee and he called an "over the back" foul on one of the players. The mechanic he used looked like my beagle when he sits up and puts his paws in the "begging" position. Not only that, both "officials" were wearing shirts with collars.

There was one scene where an official threw a chest pass to an inbounder from about 20 feet away.

Doesn't anyone act as an advisor on these shows? Let me answer my own question: DUH!!! :p

BTW - just for you , Juulie - at the end of the show, two of the justices toasted "basketball players and the men who referee their games." Get it? The men.

This is an old story line that writers seem to use when they run out of ideas. "Let's have a basketball game where the cops play the robbers!" It's been done on Hill Street Blues, LA Law and numerous other shows. I've yet to see officials betrayed accurately in any of these shows.

Hey Hollywood, give us a break already. :(

Two comments: first, Joe Mantagna isn't a real Supreme Court justice - he just plays one on TV. ;)

Second, there was a movie made about 10 years ago or so called "The Temp". It was filmed here in Portland and there was a basketball game in it. They filmed the game at a middle school where one of my brothers-in-law taught and they asked him to play a referee in the scene.

If you ever see the movie, the really tall guy playing a referee is my brother-in-law Jim, and his mechanics are perfect.

I wonder how that happened? ;)

I see that stuff at many sub-varsity (and sometimes varsity) games in my area. So the idea of "Art imitating life" was alive and well on that show.

Hey, BktballRef, I think you mean portrayed, not betrayed, don't you.;)

I'm sure he did, since we are "betrayed" with regularity.
