At what point does the 5 second to inbound rule after a field goal go into effect? Does the count start as soon as the field goal is made or is it a delay of game if the inbounding team takes it's time to pick up the ball if there's only 10 seconds left in the game.My kids were up 4 pts. with 12 sec to go in game.Opp made a 3 pointer and the ref called 5 sec because he said we didn't take the ball out fast enough.This is 6 to 8 year old basketball so there is no pressing in the backcourt allowed.

Once the ball is at the disposal of the throwing team, the count should start. Most officials will wait until the thrower has the ball and steps OOB. But if the thrower is obviously delaying, then the official is within the rule to start the count.

A while ago, we had a thread on when the count should start that went for about 900 pages and there still was no consensus.

Please, let's not start it all over again. My brain (what's left of it, anyway) still hurts.
