Two Cents ...

My two cents. I thought the original post was spam.

Welcome to the Forum.

Thank you for indulging me for an answer. I should respond with the reason for my query (Dan, that's another word for "question"). I was wondering because the vets I know are all happy enough with the Fox 40 Classic that they haven't really even considered going to the Sonik (or the Dolphin for that matter). I even got told (politely, actually) to dump my Fox 40 Mini and get the Classic. :)

It was real hard to get a good sound and took a lot of air to do it. It did not sound very good on one side even though there is no downside to this whistle. I told them about what I thought all the problems were and did not know if I would ever here back from them. THIS IS ONE FINE COMPANY! Last week I got an email from them and they sent me a NEW AND IMPROVED one to try! I have not been able to use it in a game just yet but took it to the gym and BOY is it MUCH BETTER! REAL NICE SOUND with less air and will do it everytime you blow it unlike the 1st one that was sent to me. The other day a friend of mine was on a riding lawnmower across the street and keep in mind I live on a 4 lane highway! I blew the Sonik from my front lawn and he looked up RIGHT THEN! I will give it a better review after I test it in a game or two and get back to everyone but just wanted you to know that it is much improved! The only thing I found wrong was that both sides did not sound exactly alike but it is VERY HIGH PITCHED AND LOUD! I will keep in touch and THANK YOU FOX 40 for being a GREAT COMPANY! Kevin :)

I went to camp this past weekend, and of course they had a vendor there selling his wares. I decided I wanted to try out the Fox 40 Sonic, so I bought one. Apparently I did not buy a "new and improved" version. LOTS of air required to get an average sound, and it wasn't crisp at all . . . very rough sounding. I used it for 3 games hoping it would "work out," but never did. I went back to my Dolphin. I have been using it for two years, and IMO it is the best whistle on the market. Doesn't require much air, is louder than the Fox 40 Classic or Sonic, and directs the sound away from my face and ears. Yeah, I know the whole argument about not knowing which side is up when you are on the floor, but when compared to the other whistles I have used, I will gladly stay with my Dolphin. But hey, that is just my 2 cents . . . spend it if you want to.

You tried it for 3 games at camp? If it doesn't give me the loud and crisp sound that I want, I'll stop using it immediately.

Ron Foxcroft- Great Canadian ref and inventor of the original Fox 40 whistle! Like Canadian Naismith and the game itself do Canadians have to do it all?? Plus 2 consecutive NBA MVPS by a Canadian Kid named Nash and robbed of the 3rd consecutive for probably purely politcal reasons.
Inviting a rant by RUT:)

A little more info!

Here is a little more help if you are trying to get the updated Sonik. The old Sonik had a large lanyard ring and it was not attached to the whistle. The updated Sonik has a smaller ring and it is attached to the Sonik. That is really the only other way to tell the difference between old and updated right now. I will try to help you guys more as I get more info. THANKS! Kevin :D
