NBA mechanics/foul reporting
Question about NBA mechanics/foul reporting; when the # of the player is reported, they use two hands (i.e. i believe if they're reporting #32, they'll signal '3' with their right hand and '2' with their left hand). What happens with numbers like 47, 19, 9, etc....???
thanks in advance. |
who knows? The NBA refs take so long and are so cool and non-chalant in their reporting that I don't even pay attention anymore.
This isn't a knock against the refs or their abilities, it's a knock against what is apparently the preferred style the powers-that-be want the NBA officials to display. I've noticed it in all the refs during the play-offs (I don't watch the regular season). |
For #47, they will use the right hand with 4 fingers and then use both hands to indicate the 7.

Actually, all NBA refs are aliens from the planet Strom and have 10 digits on each hand. These digits come out only when needed. Here's a pic of one of them practicing before a game.

Most officals in NBA would signal 7 ( would look also like 52) for the foul. Very rarely do they ever signal the 4 and then the 7. While signalling "7" they would be verball indicating 47. NBA scorekeepers have a pretty good clue on what's going on out there and who the fouls are on... |

P.S. What are you doing posting at 3:00 a.m., unless your little pink house is in southern France? How did you like the Monaco Grand Prix? |

From what I've seen every official has his (or her) own mechanics. |
