Unhappy

Had a V game today. Both teams were playing for first place. The crowd, the coaches, and the players, were crying for and against almost every call. It was a fast pace game. Lots of illegal use of hand calls, offensive fouls, and block shots but with body contact.
I left the gym feeling down on myself because of all the negativity. I feel my partner and I called a good game but it wasn't that feeling I usually have when I know I came with my A game. To be honest, this wasn't my A game. I have a week to rest, big tournamemt coming up next week.Somebody give me some love.

Get over it!!!! You win some you lose some. We all want a pat on the back when we do a great one, but run for cover when we don't. Take pride in the fact you were given the big game. Think about what happened. If there is something still really burning about your performance then adapt, if you are good enough to do the big game then you should already know what to do to avoid it in the future. You already know the answers to your woes. Move on, no sympathies here. Just get out and do the next one.

I can't understand how you can feel bad after doing a big game, unless in your own mind you didn't handle it well.

I had the same kind of game last night, teams playing for the championship, non stop from the word go. One point game at the end, with the loosing team on the line to shoot '3', with no time on the clock. Best shooter on the team couldn't take the preassure 'bricked' all three, game over.
We heard it all, from all sides, that's all part of doing a big game like this. Let them play hard and call just what you have to, the only ones that don't complain are the players.
Myself I was primed for the game, and am now still glowing from the satisfaction of doing such a game, I feel that I did my best. And that's all we can ask for.

Cheer up, it couldn't have been that bad...

Hey feeli99,
Those ugly games are so rare.
We would all like to just wash them off when they happen, but they, sometimes, are too sticky.
You probably did have your A game with you and you probably did just fine.
Good luck in the tourney.

Try to find some good out the game. "Well, this game will toughing us for the tourney games." or "Maybe someone else would not have called the fouls we did a player may have gotten hurt."
Sometimes the players can make it a tough to call and we look like the bad guys when we're trying to keep the peace!

Today, no one wants to take responsibility for their actions! Players, coach's and fan's in todays society seems to be looking for someone else to "blame", weather it's in sports or the courts or at work, it's always someone eles's fault. Referee's take on the really tough job of that split second judgement making. We all are looking for the elusive perfect game and working hard to do the best job possible but we must remember everytime we put air into the whistle we are going to "piss off" half the people in the gym.

Keep the faith

I can tell you evaluate yourself. Good. You know to put this behind you. You will learn from this and do a good job. I would suggest to review the game tape. I find it helps me when i have kicked a couple calls. I try to learn something from it. You are a good official so, get back in there.

Just had similar Varsity boys game myself. Knew going in that it was a great rivalry. In our pregame we talked about calling it tight to start with. Game was ugly from start, visitors jumped on top 22-4 by end of first quarter. Kept calling fouls, found out in today's box score we shot 76 freethrows. Sometimes players just don't want to give us a chance to let them have a game. Like you I thought we did a good job. Just one of those games you hope you don't have too many times a season. Have let it go, can't wait for next game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get feedback from the only impartial people in the whole gym -- your partner and any other varsity officials that were at the game. Don't ever let the comments of coaches, players or fans get to you.
