spiece camp

Wondering if anyone is attending the Spiece Camp in Fort Wayne next weekend. It will be my 2nd camp I have been to in my short 3 year reffing career. Looking forward to it.:)

It shouldn't. The Oakland Athletics pitcher is Joseph Matthew Blanton. Our Forum poster is J. S. Blanton. J. M. is from Tennessee. J. S. is from Indiana. They have two things in common, their last names, and that they both love their jobs.

A very exclusive camp.

It will be well worth the money and time at this camp. The games are great and fun to work, plus the on court evaluations you receive will be tremendous. I know the director of the camp as I work for him currently, and he brings in a great staff of evaluators.

Is the spiece camp where the Spiece Girls hang out? Is that soccer guy going to be there? :p

I thought it was that camp where you wear diapers, eat food from a tube, and pretend to fly the shuttle.

I've heard nothing but good things about the camp and I'm really looking forward to it. Anyone else going to be there? Anyone have any tips specific to this camp?

Bring full uniform as pants are required for this camp. Work hard and bring your mental note pad with you, as you will be handed a ton of information by very good officials that work all levels of college basketball and some also working in the WNBA as well.

Is it acceptable to dress casual (khaki shorts and a polo) when you arrive to the games you're working?

johnSandlin Mon Apr 28, 2008 01:48pm

I would not because I do not feel you have enough time to change and make it to your courts for your games. I would come dressed and ready to work.

I will be there (my second year attending this camp). It is a very good camp. As others have said, the level of play is extremely high and the clinicians are excellent. You WILL get a very honest evaluation after each game.

Be prepared to run, run, run and run some more.

There's a health club at Speice, and you can change in their locker room. If you have games at other sites (I believe there are 10 additional sites) you would have to change in a bathroom.

Last year, I kept extra shirts and pants in the bag I carry as well as a pair of shorts to wear in between games. You won't work two games in a row, so you'll have some time to rest between games.

Make sure to keep your number with you at all times and make sure it's pinned on your shirt when you're on the court.

Have fun.
