Its Official - I've retired

Its official - I have retired from adult league rec ball. Last nights were the final games to which I was obligated to and they were typical. In the last games of the season, players just seem to want to try to do all the things thay have held back on all year. My partner and I called 5 Ts in the first game and by the second game we were just mellow. Its amazing how calling those Ts sometimes just takes away all the pain. Most of them came from players who just didn't know when to zip their pie hole. I had one who wanted to argue that after a punch signal for an offensive foul, I had really signaled to count the basket. Even some of the wives in the stands were yelling for them to grow up and just play.

It was a good run all these years as I learned a lot about player and game management, but I've lost my patience in general with certain players and the type of ball they play. They will always remain the same, so it is time for me to move on.

Bring on the kids games!

Don't look at it as a retirement, look at it as a graduation.

Not everyone graduates. When it came to high school, for example, Jurassic just retired.

Was there "high school" back then?

Only trade schools.

Like the School of Spear Shaping, Academy of Wheel Chipping, Dinosaur Hunting Institute, Firestarter Tech.

You were at Chanute? You may not recognize the place now, as the base buildings have been integrated into the town. The runways, etc. are still there, but a couple of manufacturing business took over the larger buildings, base housing has been turned into condo units and apartments, the golf course is privately owned, The Rantoul Park District built a water park and pool on the grounds, and the fence is gone. But, other than that, it looks the same. :)

I'm doing a lot of work at Buckley AFB in Denver, and I've had a chance to visit the old Lowry area. They've done a remarkable job there of integrating the entire area into the community.

Tech School at Lowry AFB, March-May 1983. Saw NC State/Houston while there and the Sixers do their 4-5-4 play-off run. TDY there in Jan 1986. Sat in billeting watching New England upset Oakland and Sean Ladetta wiff on a punt v. the Bears. The next weekend I watched New England shut down Marino and the Bears shut out Eric Dickerson.

Who Calls The English Teacher Daddy-O ?

When Jurassic Referee went to school there were just three subjects: Huntin', Gruntin', and Cave Painting. I believe that he passed all three, and was summa cum laude in Gruntin'.

Couldn't have been that. Latin wasn't invented yet. I think he just earned the "Polished Rock" award.

They didn't know how to polish rocks yet.

But he was awarded the "shiny smooth not too muddy rock of the year" prize!
