OT: College Hockey

I was just watching the second semifinal of the Frozen Four on ESPN when a Notre Dame player named Christian Hanson took a knock and was shown during a break trying to see if he could still go. I had a chuckle at the name because I immediately thought of the movie Slapshot. Suddenly, the camera cuts to a shot of his father sitting in the stands, and sure enough they say that he really was one of the HANSON brothers from the movie!!! I was truly LMAO.

So I went to the online player bio and sure enough found this:

... his father, Dave, played 10 years of pro hockey, including stints with the Detroit Red Wings, the Minnesota North Stars and the WHA's Minnesota Fighting Saints ... father is best known for his role in the movie, Slapshot, as one of the famed Hanson Brothers

http://www.arenacentral.com/hansonbrothers/index.html

Now this got me thinking about having to deal with some kids like this on a basketball court!

The NHL had a record year for attendance and number of sellouts.

Hanson has two daughters and one son. His son, Christian, is a centre at The University of Notre Dame. He currently resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and manages a sports center at Robert Morris University.

Up here in the U P of Michigan, I saw the Hanson brothers come up and play hockey in Calumet. They played for the Marquette Iron Rangers. I can't remember who won but it was fun to watch them play semi pro hockey.

I hope that there are no movie producers reading. We already had a semi pro basketball movie.

Then again, anything hockey is a good thing... a hockey movie would be nice. I think the last one I saw was "Mystery, Alaska". That was a good flick.

I still remember the Plager brothers. One had what must have been a 'family' name.

Journalists are not necessarily past valedictorians.

You're correct, thirteen famous valedictorians, and not a single journalist on the list:
1. Byron White, Supreme Court justice (Wellington High School, 1934; University of Colorado, 1938)
2. Paul Robeson, multitalented genius (Rutgers College, 1919)
3. W. E. B. Du Bois, historian and sociologist (Great Barrington High School, 1884)
4. Jodie Foster, actress (Lycee Francaise, 1980)
5. Cindy Crawford, supermodel (DeKalb High School, 1984)
6. Ben Stein, actor and Comedy Central host (Yale Law School, 1970)
7. Harry Anderson, actor on TV's Night Court (North Hollywood High School, 1970)
8. Robert Byrd, powerful senator (Mark Twain High School, 1934)
9. Kevin Spacey, cool actor (Chatsworth High School, 1977)
10. Gouverneur Morris, an author of the U.S. Constitution (Kings College [now Columbia University], 1768)
11. Johnny Bench, one of baseball's greatest catchers (Binger High School, 1965)
12. Weird Al Yankovic, parody king (Lynnwood High School, 1975)
13. Emmylou Harris, country music queen (Garfield High School, 1965)

It's true. Genius comes in many forms. Even in a suitcase.
