Don't laugh at this post (too much)....

Hey all,

Finished my first year of officiating this season and going to camp(s) this summer. Quick question (and I'm sure this will turn into a "is he serious?" thread, but here goes).....

I know the officiating attire at most camps is shorts as opposed to pants. But is it athletic shorts, or more of the dress pants type shorts?

Yes, I know, I'm apparently still a rookie! Insert joke here......

Serious answers are appreciated, but "creative" ones are always welcome too:D

Seriously, I would check with the camp director for specifics as attire varies from camp to camp. That being said, it wouldn't hurt to take pants & shorts as you will want to be prepared for whatever may or may not change. Perhaps an opportunity may arise while camping that requires you to wear pants. I'd rather be prepared than make an excuse.

(You knew it was coming, didn't you ;))This is considered proper attire at camp. Note the stripes on the jersey are going in the correct direction, but are just shorter than usual. Wearing sunglasses is optional.

Thanks! I appreciate the help!

Of all the campers I've ever seen only 1 wore dress type shorts. Virtually all others wore athletic shorts, a handfull wore long pants and 1 in particular was just short (insert squirrel picture here).

Is this the new NCAA OUTFIT for next year?

No, seriously, some camps say "shorts optional", but take both, because when you get there you will hear most say not to wear them, especially if the gyms are air conditioned, if they aren't then maybe they will not really care, but most assignors like to see you work in what you supposed to be wearing. Don't give them an excuse to look down on you!

I agree with this. I would not take dress shorts. I would take pants and PLAIN black shorts that you might wear in a pick-up game (you know, with a drawstring instead of button and zipper).

Yes, we knew it was coming......and it was expected!

However, from what I've seen, many of us (me included), might not look so good..... :D

Athletic shorts. You would only wear dress shorts if you're reffing in SoCal or . . . wait for it . . . the SEC.

I also agree about taking shorts and pants. If the majority of people are wearing pants, wear pants. More importantly, if everyone else is wearing shorts, don't be the dexter-head who wears pants!

The thing hanging between the shorts? Easy Spartacus, probably just a flag or towel.

You can where black dress shorts to the meetings and social hour.
