Duke/UConn

I just head Gino say he needed more bodies to beat Stanford tonight. And Coach K said his team "tired out" last year. When are these upper level teams going to realize you can't just rely on 5 or 6 players to win the NCAA, teams are just too deep and athletic. Why don't they play more players during the regular season and tourney so they're fresh to the very end?

John Wooden once said "You go with your best 6 or 7 players until the game is won or lost."

A good (albeit easy) observation and he's right. This has burned Duke over the last many yrs. Coach K rarely goes beyond 7 or so...... It's good enough to win a lot of games, but not when you come up against a group of thoroughbreds with talent that can out last you.

Geno actually did play more players during the season, at least until he lost two starting guards to injury. He was not making excuses, just stating a fact. UConn ran Stanford to the point of exhastion when the two teams played early in the season. The result was the Cardinal missed a lot of open shots. Last night, UConn didn't have the personnel to do that and Stanford was devastating in the way they ran their half court offense.
