Rule Question: Lost Possession while in air

Situation:

A player went up for a shot. While in the air, a defender popped the ball out of his hands. While still in the air, he grabbed the loose ball and came down with it.

What's the call?

The closest rule I found was:

If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor. If he drops the ball while in the air, he may not be the first to touch the ball.

Does it apply?

This is not a violation. The player with the ball is free to dribble, pass or shoot.

A player can always get possession of their own fumble.

Peace

True. However the OP case isn't a fumble.

We had a good discussion of this (without the defender touching the ball) on the forum a couple of seasons ago.

Yeah, you are correct. I missed the defender part.

Peace
