Anyone watching the SEC tourney?

During OT of the Miss St/Bama game, heavy winds or a tornado came by the GA Dome and caused debris to fall and the scaffolding on the ceiling to sway.

Send the teams to the locker room and the game is "paused" at just over 2:00 left in OT. Crazy.

Edited: Bama rather than UGA.

What game are you watching?

It is Miss St vs Alabama in OT. Miss St up by 3 with Bama to shoot 1 + whenever they resume.

What a crazy situation!

Good job by officials and SEC to get everyone safe and in their locker rooms.

Teams Back

All safe. Warming up to resume game. Ga vs Ky next. Late start.

Last game postponed; they're talking about playing it at GATech's site.

I think we've found a game sitch even Padgett hasn't seen.:p

1) Hopefully everybody is safe.

2) I don't think the players will be as affected as people think. How many tourney did these kids play growing up playing 3-4 games a day. These are well conditioned athletes. Guys from across the river correct me if I'm wrong, but before the current class setup, for years didn't IL play the state semis's in the morning and the state championship in the evening? Yes no coach is going to be happy, but life sometimes throws you a curve.

3) I don't fully understand the rational of this statement from an espn.com article - Peevy said the league also will limit attendance in the 9100-seat arena to only the players' families, cheerleaders, bands and other credentialed individuals.
Cheerleaders and bands? WTF? There's going to be nobody there!!!

To top it off we've got reports of tornados on the ground now just west of Atlanta with strong storms moving through. I was just listening to the radio and they were getting ready to tip off the GA/Kentucky game with the winner to play tonight against Miss State. Gotta love spring in Georgia...

Thread title error

Shouldn't it be: "Anyone watching the--wait for it--the SEC tourney"?

In a few hours, how do you decide which 9,100 of the 26,000 people get replacement tickets...and which tickets do they get?

eyezen Sat Mar 15, 2008 12:46pm

That wasn't my point - I understand the logistics of the ticket nightmare and why they would choose the path they did.

My point was the irony of letting in the the cheerleaders and bands in there if your not going to let any other spectators in.

Will they still do the kiss cam too? :D

The players' friends and family members need something to look at during the timeouts.

FWIW, I'm going to predict that the SEC finds some way to fill the arena for the championship game tomorrow. The networks (CBS, IIRC) don't like televising games from empty stadia, even if the story behind this one makes for interesting news.

26 Year Gap Sat Mar 15, 2008 01:43pm

Not as bad as the old NAC tourney during the measles outbreak. Cardboard cutouts dominated the attendance. THis was before it was renamed America East and it was in Hartford.
