Double Standards are Fun!

Caught the highlights of the Nets/Rockets game. Richard Jefferson got whacked for giving the infamous Dikembe Mutumbo finger-wag after Mutumbo had given it more than once after blocks.

Just thought it odd; does Mutumbo get away with it because he's been doing it forever, or because he's 135 years old and the NBA refs respect their elders?:p

I don't watch much NBA and didn't even realize Mutumbo was still in the league....... you may be right about his age. Yikes! ;)

Mutumbo gets away with it because he doesn't do it directly to another player. He always turns to the crowd and does the finger wag.

It's a reminder for NY/NJ not to try to imitate Houston :D

I agree it's odd, since the directive to give the T for the finger wag was given in direct response to Mutumbo doing it in the first place.

I saw the highlight but didn't see the one that Mutumbo did.

In a game earlier this year he did get called for it. He waved his finger at the player and the announcer said (for what it's worth) that you get a technical if you direct it at a player. If you do it to the crowd then it is okay.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a high school player imitate Mutumbo and do this.

Nope, it because it's his signature or ESPN highlight move. It's like Patrick Ewing being allowed to take 13 steps going to the middle, Lebron taking 11 steps on a dunk, Michael Jordan pushing off defenders, etc., etc.,

Remember when the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) changed their name to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)? Well, I hear the NBA is thinking of changing their name to National Basketball Entertainment (NBE) for the same reasons.

The NBE......Fantaaaaastic ......while using the same rules as the Harlem Globetrotters.

It's true, it's true......

As long as he doesn't use the middle one.
