You are forgetting rule number one:

Your assignor is ALWAYS right.....

Never say never, never say always.

chels,

Personally, I think you did a good job. What everyone always forget is that there are thousands of plays in each game and each one of those could have been the play that decided the game. If Red or Gold would have done something in the first half, for example, the game might not have been close at the end.

Someone once told me that the different between a good referee and an average one is that a good one is not afraid to make the call at the end of the game.

To quote J. Dallas Shirley: "Never say never, and never say always." When the assigner is wrong the assigner is wrong. That is the beauty of ethics. If my superior told me to use a design that went against good engineering practice I am ethically bound to ignore is instructions. When an assigner tells me to ignore the rules and casebook plays, I am ethically bound to ignore him, and if he does not like it, I will tell him to take it up with the appropriate rules committee.

Good answer!

By not making the call, you ARE deciding the game at that moment. Make the call, let the players decide the outcome.
