Yes, it was control, coach

Had an 8th grade game last night to determine seeding for playoffs that start this weekend. Middle of Q3, A1 passes to A2. The pass is quite high and A2 has to jump. He grabs the ball with both hands and while still holding it that way, falls to the floor. I call a travel. Coach A jumps up and yells, "That can't be a travel, he didn't have control!"

I turn to coach and say, "Coach, he had both hands holding the ball. That's control. He doesn't have to have the ball super glued to his forehead."

The coach looked at me and said, "I still think he has to dribble first before he can have control."

Where do they get these guys? :o

"Let me get this right, Coach. If a player catches the ball, he can run down the court with the ball as long as he hasn't dribbled yet?"

Last night I had a MS "coach" wanting 3 seconds called before the ball crossed half court. He was also furious that I wouldn't grant his TO request while his team were defenders :)

I have got to come watch you officiate one of these games.

You don't want to do that... it's brutal man! Brutal I tell ya

Are you going to be able to catch any 5A games at the Coliseum this weekend?

Adam Fri Mar 07, 2008 01:56pm

Probably not. It's the first weekend I haven't either worked or moved stuff from the western slope since Ground Hog Day. The wife has plans, and they don't involve basketball. :(

I hear ya, my wife said something similar but I told her this is for educational purposes :D
