from an editorial by George Will, Washington D.C.
Body Mass Index : Divide your weight in pounds by the square of your height in inches, then multiply by 703. If the resulting number is below 25 you are not over-weight. If it is 25 to 29 you, like 34% of Americans aged 20 to 74. are over-weight. If your BMI number is 30 or higher you, like 27% of adults, have super-sized yourself. You are obese. |

|
26.73...... Pretty good little test, I think. I would consider myself 5-10 lbs. overweight. Too much Corona.
|
sheesh!!
I guess I'm an idiot. I can't figure it out.
Someone help me please. I'm 188 pounds. And I'm 74.5 inches. I'll patiently "weight" on the answer. :) |

Mine comes out to 24.9 -- think I will go get a doughnut.:D |
The problem with body mass index is that is doesn't
take into consideration how much of your MASS is lean muscle. So in theory, you could be "overweight" by BMI standards, when in actuality, you could be in an "excellent" category when it comes to body fat %. |
Not pleased with the results?

By the way, mine is 25.71.
But according to my body fat, I am in "excellent" condition. 38 years old, with around 13%. (I know, could be better.) |

I guess with all the math questions, it shows why they only allow numerals 0 - 5 on a uniform!! I run out of fingers & toes when you starting talking 'squares'.
My fat test - you can't see lil' willie, then it's time to put down the doughnut! |

I think if you are UNDER 40 you get a bonus 4.6 points off your score.....that puts me at 29.9. There it is...I've just discovered the BMIA.....take your weight divided by height squared time 703 minus 4.6 if you qualify. Larks - Runner / Hustler / Good Game Caller....and BMI Challenged |

fat boys...just for fun
I'm 6'5" - 260. According to the scale I am LARGE overweight... 2 years ago I was 220 and fit (torn ACL, working a desk job eating junk food, and no reffing will do that to you :( ) but according to this I should be 211. I would be wafer at 211......bogus stuff

I'd just like to point out that BMI is not the be-all, end-all of whether someone's weight is healthy or not. BMI is a start and a guideline for classifying someone as overweight or obese, but body fat measurements and just plain common sense are better indicators of overall health. |
Just for the record, since this thread was started 2 years ago, Larks has lost 4 lbs. However, when you start out at 6'14" and 783# like Larks, that's the equivalent of one of us normal guy's blowing his nose.
|
Ah you beat me to the punch....
And by the way, I'm 6'15", not 14! Hey...post # 500! Tell him what he's won Johnny! |
