A high school officiated a game? Even the custodians? Did the lunch lady call any fouls? ;)

ma_ref Mon Mar 03, 2008 11:49am

Maybe I'm reading the post wrong, but a high school kid officiated a college game? Unless this is some kind of weird publicity stunt, does anybody know the name of this assignor who has just assigned their last game for Youngstown State?

yep. that would be incoming NCAA National Coordintaor of Men's Basketball Officials - John Adams (Hank Nichols is retiring at the conclusion of this season). John currently assigns the men's officials in the Horizon League

Yes, the dreaded 'over the snack' call.

Do you have an URL for this article. This just doesn't sound correct. A long time personal friend was the Horizon League evaluator at YSU but he died of a heart attack last summer so I do not know who took his place as evaluator at YSU. I will make some phone calls and send some emails to friends in the both the Trumbull Co. Bkb. Off. Assn. and the Mahoning Valley Bkb. Off. Assn. to see who the new evaluator is and try to get to the bottom of this.

A quick search on their site yields nothing - hmmmmm.

Raymond Mon Mar 03, 2008 02:24pm

secondregion probably meant Jon Deibler. It's an understandable mistake.

Of course they can.

Of course, they also just drop them like they usually do.

Fwiw, a "Jason Baker" has officiated 18 games in that conference this year, according to bbstate.com.

I'd say that it's highly unlikely that he's a high school student.

He's a punter for the Carolina Panthers in his off time.

They named a high school after an NFL punter? Wow! Must be a helluva punter.

And they say the education system in America is under achieving?

This Jason Baker High School is a fine example of what our school systems are capable of producing.

Did the coach yell, "That's a peach!"? :p

That must have been the game where the kid won it at the end by hitting a tray. :p

Maybe it was O.J. Mayo (double pun there). :p

OK, I'll stop for now. See - you guys will never ketchup to me after all.

He has 11 years of experience as a HS official according to khsaa.org so i'm pretty sure it was a typo in the first post as all of you are aware. There were no bricks and mortar running up and down the court. The lunch lady was making sloppy joes, not officiating. There was no 16 year old working an NCAA game. Give it a rest.

Based on the posting history of regionbug we can't assume it was a typo.

Brad Mon Mar 03, 2008 08:49pm

Jason Baker is not in high school.

regionbug - you are going to have to stop posting while drunk :)
