LSU-Georgia

Guy from Georgia got ejected for a flagrant foul for an elbow to the face following a battle on the floor for a loose ball. Announcers first said that the ejection would mean a suspension for the next game as well. Later they said that there was no next game suspension since the ejection was for a flagrant foul and not a fight. Is this an NCAA thing, an SEC thing, or a 'they don't know what they're talking about' thing?

They don't know what they are talking about! ;)

I saw the highlight. It looked like their coach got the door too. Did he?

No As near as I can understand, that was Valentine reiterating "You're gone," to the player.

Actually, I believe the NCAA distinguishes between the flagrant fouls for purposes of suspensions. Fights mean an automatic suspension. "Standard" flagrants do not carry a suspension.

This is a case of the stopped clock being right twice a day.

True and the announcers got it right the second time.

Exactly.

If you are in a fight you are ejected that game and suspended from the next one automatically. If you have another fight later in the year, you are gone for the rest of the season. This is an NCAA thing.

A flagrant foul means ejection from that game only. However, the commissioner of league can always hand down a suspension if it is deemed necessary.
