Storming the Court

Here is an interesting case of starting OT with 2 FT's. Albeit the whole story isn't presented here, does everybody agree with the decision given the emphasis on trying to avoid penalizing a team for the actions of their fans.

Given a personal penchant of mine for penalizing stupidity, I'm okay with this.

Who storms the court on a shot that ties a game up? In situations where fans may think they have won the game, but didn't due to a travel, pc foul, etc. causing the shot not to count, I understand, but this was obviously a game tying shot.

Do you recall the NCAA memos from the last couple of seasons on this? Remember the Duke/FSU game?
The T is exactly what the NCAA wants. They stated that very clearly in the recent memos.

Good job by the officials of that contest.

As Nevada said, you're stating the wrong emphasis, Boomer. The NCAA has very explicitly said that it wants fans penalized if they storm the court.

Seeing as I don't work NCAA games, I typically don't get those memos. I do recall past situations of storming the court, as well as the frequent announcements at NCAA games about staying off the court, but I was perhaps wrongly under the impression that the various conferences were in charge of penalizing this via fines, etc. I'm not saying I have a problem with the call, just didn't realize that is how the NCAA wants it.

I don't seem to remember the same memo coming out at the NFHS level, so I guess I should have asked if anybody would be reluctant to call it at the HS level (unless of course I've missed something and the NFHS has ruled the same as the NCAA). One of the big differences for me is the NCAA emphasis of staying off the court/field at the end of games is made known through all the PA announcements during a game. At HS games the home students typically end up all over the court pretty quickly after a game. Thankfully the students in my area are smart enough to stay off the court until the game is actually over and I haven't had to deal with this, but I'd be glad to know for sure how to handle it.
