You sort this out...

Today I'm coaching my CYO kids. 5th grade playoff game.
We're home team. Up by 4 points. Visitors have 8 team fouls.

My player H25 dribbles up the court, and is fouled by V15. Officials go to report, but all of a sudden H25 and V15 are exchanging blows!! Holy Crap!

Anyways, now these two officials try to sort things out. One was a youth referee (maybe 17 or 18). Earlier I'd threatened to "go all Mollalla on his a$$" but he didn't get it. Actually I didn't do that.:D The other official is a adult, a cyo level official. The official for the next game, a local HS official was at the table and he helped the two.

Anyways... here is what they came up with:
Double flagrant technicals on both players.
My substitute would be shooting a one-and-one.

First off, the book thinks that "double technicals" are 2 technicals on each player, so they have the Visitors with 11 team fouls.

I argue that we have a double-bonus and should shoot two. Refs say when the foul occurred that there were only 9 team fouls. I tell him, I like his logic but I think he's wrong.

So, we miss the first of the one-and-one, but hold on for victory.

Should we have had a double-bonus?

Also, just tell me I'm right that the double technicals are one technical on each player.

What does the rule book say?

my kid is not the guy who i would expect to be involved.
I have a couple of other kids who would but not him.
I didn't really see how it started.

OP, the personal foul was the 9th team foul so you only shoot one-and-one for that infraction.

ca_rumperee Sat Feb 23, 2008 05:31pm

so, it has a 'time stamp' as it were...

3. bonus free throw:
a. For seventh, eighth, and ninth team foul each half, if first free throw is successful.
b. Beginning with 10th team foul each half whether or not first frree throw is sccessful.

that foul was #9 of the half. end of story, yeah?

Yeah a "time stamp" is a good way to look at it. 9th foul so still shooting 1 and 1.

It blows my mind that officials are having so much diffficulty with this.

If foul 6 is a common foul followed by a dead ball T, WE DO NOT SHOOT 1 & 1!!

If foul 10 is a common foul followed by a dead ball T, WE DO NOT SHOOT 2!!
