3-point attempt
A fellow official asked this of me stating another observer
told him on a 3-point attempt he was using the incorrect three fingers. NFS. I looked in a CCA women's manual and it shows: index, middle, ring For the men's CCA manual it shows: little, ring, middle Anyone know the NFS finges? |
Is this a real question? Are there people out there concerned about which three fingers should be used to mark a 3-point attempt?
That said, I know many officials who simply hold their entire hand up to mark the three. I'm a pinky, ring, middle guy, myself. Report fouls the same way. |

FWIW - I use the same three fingers to signify three seconds violation and you can run the line out of bounds after a made shot......if applicable. |
I don't believe the HS manual goes that deep into it.
Are there people out there concerned about which three fingers should be used to mark a 3-point attempt? At a local camp I attended last summer I was specifically told pinky, ring & middle fingers was our associations approved mechanic. Guess what I've been doing ever since :) That said, I know many officials who simply hold their entire hand up to mark the three. NBA mechanics? |

PS He speaks okay now, although it took years of speech therapy to develop that. Sometimes, I wish he'd just shut up! |

I've had people who know ASL tell me the pinkie-ring-middle is a "bad sign." Didn't hear a peep from the folks at the deaf school when I did their games. That's the only reason I can imagine why anybody would care which we use. |

The "Official NFHS Basketball Signals" picture in the back of the NFHS Officials Manual shows index, middle, ring. I use pinky, ring, middle.
