Cheerleader interference

A freshman boys game I saw today had a strange situation. Team A makes a layup. Team B secures ball and wants to throw long. He winds up to throw long and a cheerleader on the baseline during her cheer activity accidentally hits ball causing ball to go onto court. Official whistle play dead and give B endline throw in with moving privledge.
My questions:
1. Is there any type of penalty provision by rule?
2. How do you keep those pesky cheerleaders from working your endline?
Serious replies only- I been around this forum long enough to know we have some real comediens.:D

15 yards and an automatic first down.

And I've called it many things, but never my "endline."

Are you a French-Canadian comedian? :p

A team supporter interferring with the ball? You can award a touchdown for that! :D

In all seriousness... A team follower interferring with a live ball. Unsporting... issue a technical foul.

1. No!!

2. Look at your state guideline in reference to location of cheerleader. Plus, a nice little conversation with the head cheerleader remaining him/her that have to be mindful of play along the endline if they are located their.

You man have larger schools who have enough young ladies;) to form a cheerleading squad.

In my neck of the woods, those pesky (although sometimes distracting) cheerleaders LOVE to get on the baseline. I simply walk over and say, "girls, I need you to stay over here." (And point to the corner.) If they start to inch down, I just do a little motion for them to move over as we come down in transition. They usually get it. As for the interference and technical foul . . . yeah, you can do that and you are covered by rule, but I would be hesitant (personally). Get it taken care of beforehand, and you won't have to deal with it after the fact. JMO

You'd be surprised how fast those cheerleaders move when they see a big 6'3" 260lb guy in black and white stripes running toward them not watching where he's going! :D
