Interesting... I do the opposite for sub varsity. I have found most players know they can not reach over the line but few understand they can move back on a spot throw in. Thus when space is limited, but not requiring of me to move the defense back, I let the thrower-in know he can move back if he chooses. Second interesting point, is only one player has ever moved back after my statement. :confused: so far anyway.... :)

It's our responsibility to watch the players. If we go chase the ball, who's watching them?

I usually say something like, "Help, please?" to one of the players, then a "Thank you!" when they give it to me.

I'll bet most of the players think they will be called for traveling if they move back. Probably another rule that coaches should address with their players.(Throw in exceptions)

With good reason. Many incompetent officials have instilled this misapprehension in them. When I was coaching, I taught the proper technique for a 'spot' throw-in only to be blindsided by an unwarranted whistle on more occasions than I can remember. Just one of the many motivations that got me into officiating 'inside the lines'!!!

We need to do a better job of training officials or at least encourage them to come to this board.....
