He was talking about the following play (or one similar to this):

A1 dribbling in his frontcourt. B1 bats the ball. The batted ball hits A1 on the foot and then rolls into A's backcourt. A1 goes into backcourt and is the first to touch the ball.

This is a backcourt violation. It's confusing to some people b/c B1 batted the ball. But b/c A1 was the last to touch it before it went into the backcourt, if anyone from A is the first to touch it in the backcourt, it becomes a violation.

It's kind of like OOB. If B1 bats the ball, then it hits A1's foot and goes OOB, it's a violation on A1. Same thing with the backcourt call.

Yep - that was it. I thought I explained it, but I guess not.

In one instance, the ball hit A1 on the shoulder, in the other, on the thigh. In fact, in the second instance, the ball was recovered by A2. Doesn't matter.

But if B1 bats A1's wrist in this case instead of the ball,then Chuck should have called the damned foul!Every time!
