In my game Sat.,Boys Var. a player went down under the basket holding his ankle and unable to get up. the ball was being tapped and retapped I felt I had to stop the play
before the player on the floor was hurt or another player got hurt landing on him. The coach of the other team couldn't believe I stopped the play, but I would do it again in the same situation. |
PaulK1,
You shouldn't worry about stopping a game in the situation you described. You are right according to the rule. The tap ends team control. See 5-8-2 Note. |

Don't blow the whistle, otherwise the player with the ball will cry because he couldn't finish his lay-up...

RecRef, I think your post is sensible, but I'm curious as to what you mean by "socialistic" HS.

Josh Ovens-
I would be careful what type of medical care you provide to a player. I am a paramedic and have been for almost 20 years. I have seen many players injured in my years of officiating. The rule I use and have been advised to use. Unless player is having difficulty breathing or is bleeding to death be very leery of putting your hands on the injured player. You have been hired as an official not as part of the medical response team. I know how difficult it is to seee someone in agony and pain......But I also know how much agony and pain I could be in if the injury was aggravated because I did not have all the proper medical gear that I usually have when I am doing my Paramedic job. Just be careful is all that I am saying. AK ref SE |
