Weirdest game for me in years - maybe ever!
Last night I had a girls 7th grade competitive rec game. There's a hint right there. Both teams in bonus in first half. One team in bonus, other team in double bonus in second half. What's so weird about that, you say? NEITHER TEAM MADE A FREE THROW THE ENTIRE GAME!!!
In fact, on the final FT of the game, the ball went part way in and spun out! I felt like I was in a Spielberg movie or something. :p To make it even weirder, neither my partner nor I had a three second call all game! How weird is that? There were no 3 point attempts either, but that was only a little weird. The only thing normal about the game was that I teed up the home coach for running his mouth through my stop sign complaining about a no call. BTW - home team won by 24. |
Mark,
The only way the game could have been weirder is if there were no held balls! |
What are the odds of seeing "Mark Padgett" and "weird" in the same sentence? :p

I'm sorry, but if one of us is keeping track of the number of held balls in a 7th grade girls game, then the coach probably had a right to run his mouth, imho. :p
Seriously, I know it's tough to stay focused in a game like this, but the participants deserve our best effort. |

I had a 7th girls C team game 2 years ago where we called 4 fouls total for the entire game. And no, we weren't letting everything go, though we did let some things go.
One of the most pleasant games I've ever worked. Play was (relatively) decent, no coach complaining, etc. Destroys any myth (at least to me) that you have to call fouls to keep the game under control or that teams respond positively to fouls being called. |
