This came up in our pregame Tuesday night, it apparently happened to one of my partners the previous Friday night.

Player attempts a dunk, the ball hits iron and bounces up, he is fouled on an undercut and is hanging on the rim to protect himself when the ball comes back down and goes through the basket. Is this basket interference? Why or why not? That is what we were leaning towards but is there a case play that would help. We talked about it a little and never really got a good solid answer, so we're heading out of the locker room and he asks "so what are we going to call it if it happens". I said call whatever and tell the coach "coach, we talked about this exact play in the locker room before the game".

I haven't found anything in the rule book giving an exception to the rule of basket interference. In my opinion, I think that if he is touching the rim while the ball goes through, it is basket interference. Even though he was fouled, I haven't found an exception in the book allowing a scored goal in that situation... but I will continue to search for a definate correct answer.

Assuming the player "carried the ball into the cylinder," then I have nothing.

If the player "threw the ball into the cylinder," then I have BI.

actually this has been talk about, kinda. leave out the under cut foul. player trys to dunk, misses, grabs rim, ball goes up and goes in while still on the rim. No basket because he is touching rim when ball in cylinder and give him a T. So, in this situation, no basket, foul, he shoots two.

Just to pick a nit, I think you mean "no basket b/c he is touching the rim when the ball is within the basket". Right? It's not a violation to touch the rim when the ball is above the rim in the cylinder. This too, as Bob J likes to say, is a favorite Fed test question. I got it wrong 10 years ago, and for some reason, it's stuck with me to this day :mad:
