Refs Going on Strike?

Refs Cry Foul Over Pay
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...TS05/801100331

This article appeared in the Detroit News last week. Has anyone ever participated in a high school referee strike or even heard of one? How have fee raises been handled in your area?

I've heard rumors from members of various officials associations around the state (Michigan) that there is going to be some clamoring for higher pay this off-season. It's a rumor you hear every year but it seems like officials were willing to see how this first season of boys and girls combined would work and now with a taste of what it's like, there may actually be some movement on the issue.

YU.P. that's a little low.
Yet, I wonder why they take those games ?

I feel the same way about varsity in the Chicago area. IMHO should be a minimum 75.00.

I've seen an increase in pay over last year...from the larger schools. The smaller schools I've worked for still pay about the same and I think they are getting the short end of the stick because the larger schools are able to draw the top officials with the increase in game fees.

We are nowhere near as low as the officials in that article though, we even get a little extra for crossing the bridge to go to the UP.

We now get to sell foul insurance prior to the game to coaches plus all unsportsmanlike technicals called against a coach result in a $25 fine payable directly to the calling official in cash on the spot. Indirects are only $15 each.

If you believe that, I have some oceanfront property in Nebraska I would like to sell you.

No, it was a gift from Tom Cruise. He gave it to me because I'm such a big fan of his.

Detroit folks,

I might have missed it in the article, but I'm curious....Are the fees they quoted in the article 3-man or 2-man?

I gotta believe it's 3-whistle down there in South America.

CJRef Wed Jan 16, 2008 11:28am

For all the areas listed in the article, it's 3-man.

Well, if they go ahead with the strike and the conference enforces the officials contracts, now they have the extra money to raise the game fees. :D I'm just saying
