JV Tournament

This past Saturday had 3 games at a local high school's JV Tournament. For some reason I could not get into the games. I was just wondering if this has happened to any of you? Because I couldent get into my games it caused me to blow a few calls. Since I knew I blew them after it was all said and done,I really couldent do anything to the coaches who were laughing at me and fussing. I guess next time, I need to start on the way to the gym trying to get in a frame of mind.

How early did you get to the game site?

Did you have any kind or pre-game? If you did what kinds of things did you talk about and how long did it last?

Did you watch any games before you got onto the court?

You do not have to answer these questions on this site, but if you are not into the game, it might be because you were not thinking basketball before the game. Usually getting to the site in a timely manner and having a longer pre-game can help you get into the right frame of mind. If you did do all those things, then you probably need to leave the off court stuff at home. I will say it has happen to me, but this is why I get to the site early so I can leave whatever I just came from and focus on basketball. Or I might drive with my partner so we can talk basketball. That usually helps me and I am sure it would help you on some level. Just figure out why you were not focused and do what you need to do so you can be focused every time.

Peace

Brandan,
I had a similar problem 3 weeks ago. My problem was I had a cold and was on Dayquil, and a snot stopper, felt like I was in a fog the whole time, even forgot to blow the whistle when it was thrown out of bounds in my area! What helps me get into the game at other times is read through the myths of basketball (posted on this forum) read through my pregrame checklist when I get out of the shower in preparation for the game, (the same list I'll go through with my partners at the gym) and also bring an interesting case play to discuss with my fellow reffs when I get the gym and we are dressing down, kinds of gets the mind on basketball. I don't like it when my fellow reffs want to discuss house plumbing or politics or some other mind wasting material, when its basketball time I want basketball talk! Hope that helps!
