Tragedy in New Brunswick (7 players killed)
A terrible accident has resulted in seven players and one adult losing their lives in Bathurst New Brunswick (Canada). Bathurst High, a basketball team that I've officiated many times over the years, were returning home Friday night from a game in Moncton when the accident occurred. The roads were slippery but they were less than one mile from the exit to the small city when their 15 passenger van lost control and hit a tractor trailor. There were 12 people on board, the coach who was driving and three others survived. Seven players and one adult (the coach's wife) perished. It has been a devastating weekend in our small province.

Wow, Jay. So sorry to hear about that. Teams and officials drive through so much inclement weather that we try not to think about the possibilities. But that is a real shame. Those folks are in my thoughts tonight.

I saw that story. I played HS ball along the Maine-NB border and spent a lot of time in NB. A truly sad day for Bathurst and for all of us.
