Crossing Half Court?

Has anyone ever heard of an 8 second count to cross half court?? I am calling in an college intramural league and being told that this has been changed across the board. NCAA, high school etc. Is this correct? I never knew it changed from a 10 second count.

It is 10-second in NFHS and NCAA-M. I believe the NBA is 8 seconds.

I think that's the NBA rule. It's still 10-seconds on NCAA and FED.

What you are "being told" is incorrect. Eight seconds is the NBA rule.

Nothing has changed at the HS or NCAA level.

No, you're confusing that with the 8 steps rule............

i thought that was the case

I cant even find any mention on the NIRSA (college intramurals) rules. It says defer to NCAA rules if not explicitly addressed.

It's 8 seconds in FIBA.

FIBA & NBA are the only 2 rule sets (that I know of) that has an 8-sec backcourt count.

rhudson - What school are you at?

Also, despite the NIRSA rules supposedly deferring to NCAA rules, their rules (and most schools') are more often deferring to NFHS rules.
