Rivalry Rejected--33 seconds in the video

Here is a game I worked Saturday that is involved in this story. You can see me about at the 33 second mark on the video singling a 3 point shot.

Link is corrected.

Peace

Where?

If I have the right game, the opening shot shows three refs standing. You are?

zebraman Tue Jan 08, 2008 09:44am

Which game was it Rut? Lots of headlines on that link to choose from.

JRutledge Tue Jan 08, 2008 10:45am

I am sorry guys. I thought I had linked the video. The link says "Rivalry Rejected." The story is more about the rivalry than the actual game. But I get a very brief shot signaling something.

Peace

I grew up in this area for about 25 years of my life. Quincy is about an hour from where my Mom currently lives. I come down here periodically to work games because I am asked on occasion to do so. And considering that I was going to work one of the most interesting games in the entire state (second time the two teams played in 35 years and we did the game last year), this was a no-brainer.

I see ya' Rut. How tall are you? For some reason, I always thought of you as being about 6'4" or so.

I am around 6'0" or so. I would not consider that tall. :)

He's like Jon Diebler. His persona is much more formidable than the mere physical trapping.

PS Good to see you Jeff, however fleeting!

Dan_ref Tue Jan 08, 2008 01:01pm

Looks like a fun game!

Smart move, there's so little to see, we can't critique you!

I have a sneaky suspicion we worked a scrimmage together at O'Neil's camp.

If it was you, it was my best game due to my two partners.........:)

Well the game was on live TV. Believe me I got critiqued by many people watching the game live or seeing the replay. I was the Referee and the TV feed wanted to hear my pre-game meeting speech. I did not know this until right before the meeting. Fun times were had by all. I will remember this game my entire career. This game is certainly a highlight of the year for me.

Hopefully you can grab a tape of the game and burn a DVD. I was going to joke about the crowd size on par with my girls games:rolleyes: . That gym looked like it was rockin'.

There was around 2400 people standing room only. One of the biggest crowds they ever had from what I understand. Last year there were around 4500 people in the other team's gym. I have not seen crowds like that at many games period let alone any one gender outside of playoff games.

I have gained a little weight over the last few years. It seems like it is a little muscle other than fat. I am trying to get a little more cut. It is not working right now. ;)

Looks like a fun game Rut, glad you had a good time officiating that one....That was a big crowd, but not for HS round my parts here in Central Indiana...Chrysler Arena in New Castle, IN seats close to 9K IIRC....

Try 122,000 for a HS football game in Chicago.

What game had a 122,000 during a HS game? They do not even hold that many in any college football stadium in America or any college stadium for that matter.

It was at Soldier Field. Soldier Field also has the record for largest attendance for a college football game.

JRutledge Wed Jan 09, 2008 02:03pm

I found a link

That being said, these are unofficial numbers. And considering the size of Solder field, I think that was a pretty hefty estimate.

Ye of little faith............ numbers have ranged up to 132,000.

Old Soldier Field was completely different than what you see today or 50 years ago for that matter.

MISCELLANEOUS

Largest attendance--120,000 (est.), Austin High (26) Chicago, vs. Leo High (0), Chicago, 1937, Soldiers Field.

Just because they claim it, does not mean I believe it. Where were the fans sitting, on the 50 yard line?

Sigh......... here's a link for you, to get an idea of the cozy crowd they could hold back in the day, this was from I believe the Army/Navy 1926 game which had a smaller crowd. And I'm not going to count hats for so you can justify the crowd.

That was several years ago. You need to account for inflation. In today's terms, it's 120,000

Notice that everyone use to wear hats to games? Along with shirts, ties, etc.? Including the wimmen?

Now they paint their bellies and wear cheeseheads.

It's called "evolution".

Rumor has it this was your first outdoor game.............

For the technically challenged, I couldn't do a cut and paste on the photo, what am I missing?

(Geesh, beside getting reffing advice, I'm now asking for computer tips)

Click on "QUOTE" on the post showing the picture.

At the front of the url, you will see . That's all that you have to do with a link to a picture.

Boo, Boo, Boo! What about the Tiernan Center in Richmond? That gym will hold around 8000 rocking Red Devil fans and it is a nicer gym than in New Castle. I think we have also had better teams historically than New Castle. Take away Steve Alford and I don't know else they produced.

BTW, we used to have indoor track meets in our gym - to include pole vaulting!

Go. Red Devils!! The Tiernan Center was my first introdction to Indiana basketball mania. I was astounded to go to a high school game with a bigger crowd than some Blazer games.
