What exactly is the Button-Hook?

I have heard about and read on this forum a little about using the button-hook when trying to obtain an angle when getting beat on a fast break. But, I’m not sure what it actually is. Is there a particular point on the floor where you hook back up behind the players just before the shot?

You've got the idea, generally around the free throw line.

Isn’t there a concern about getting in the way of other ensuing players during the hook? Should the hook be more over by the side-line?

As close to the side line as you can get a good angle on the action. If you're too far behind, probably right on side-line would be just fine!

I have absolutely no problem with the move...you have to get the correct angle and everyone gets beat from time to time.

Button Hook Defined

Shoelaces did not become widely popular until the 20th century. Previously shoes were slip-on, buckled, or buttoned. Buttoned shoes used a special tool, a button hook, to close the buttons, but this was slow and difficult.

Isn't that a football move?

??

I hook towards the middle to get an angle to prevent from being straighlined.

It was a joke. Kinda lame, I know.

Kind of? That's an understatement.

Actually if you stay wide you get the same view C would have, the only way you get straight-lined is if the play goes away from you to the basket, which is actually more likely if you move in behind the players.

Move to get a look between the players, then move to maintain that look.
