Shoes?

Fellow whistle blowers ... can you tell me what the new hot officials shoe is for this season?

Thanks!

refnrev Sun Dec 02, 2007 08:52pm

Be prepared for about 30 different answers to this one.:)

WGAF what's "hot"? (Okay, you and Paris Hilton care but who else?)

Wear what's black and comfortable (both short- and long-term) for YOUR feet.

Johnny Ringo Sun Dec 02, 2007 09:17pm

Come on y'all ... what are you wearing? I am seeing a lot of college guys with shoes with a a big white Nike Swoosh. I even see a ref wearing black Air Jordans!

refnrev Sun Dec 02, 2007 09:36pm

Black Nike Air Monarch 3s. I liked the 2's better. Next time I'm sure I will be choosing NBs.

Johnny Ringo Sun Dec 02, 2007 10:04pm

30? That many types of shoes being worn?

rgncjn Sun Dec 02, 2007 10:05pm

I was wearing the Nike Air Max Elite TB (purchased last year) until the application of Leather Luster essentially ruined the shoes. I now wear the New Balance 610s. The 610s are a very comfortable shoe.

I'd bet more than that.

TimTaylor Sun Dec 02, 2007 10:12pm

Official Footwear, Inc. - most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. They have both low & mid styles in black leather and low in patent.

26 Year Gap Sun Dec 02, 2007 10:48pm

I'm breaking in some Reeboks. Patent leather. I have retired my Converse Whistle shoes. I also have some Nikes that are not patent. I rotate the shoes from game to game. Have no idea the model. Honigs was selling them for about 60 bucks.

I do not wear what other people wear, I wear what I like. Actually one of the shoes I am wearing is not made anymore. And what you might see on someone's feet is not necessarily something you can buy. Shoe companies change styles and brands all the time. And I can tell you what you see officials wear on TV definitely change because it is really hard to find an all black shoe that does not get discontinued or you do not find in the Referee Order stores.

Peace

I have a shoe size that is apparently in the minority.

14 EEEE

I got a pair of New Balance 602s that so far are really nice. I had the 888 last year and didn't like the high top. The 602 is similar to the referee shoe that NB makes, but NB doesn't go up to my size and width in the ref shoe.

I had my foot re-measured in the late afternoon prior to purchasing my shoe (I had to special order my shoes for obvious reasons from zappos.com)

How did that happen? I've never had the LL ruin the shoes.

IREFU2 Mon Dec 03, 2007 12:27pm

I got an all black pair of Nike's from Dick Sporting Goods for 40.00.

Splute Mon Dec 03, 2007 12:49pm

Nike Shox ID, patent leather. Look great, comfortable, but they make my feet very warm... maybe the patent not letting air in?? Otherwise I like them.

FrankHtown Mon Dec 03, 2007 01:47pm

Nb 888

i've looked at (i thought) every option in the nike id program, but have never been able to get a pair 'all black' that i like. what model shoe did you order?

Yes, covering your feet in plastic (which is waht Patent Leather is) will do that.

coach41 Mon Dec 03, 2007 06:14pm

Over the past 6 years of working high school games, I've gone through some different shoes:

Officials Choice Patent Leather
Converse Whistle
New Balance (forget model number)
Reebok High Top Basketball Shoe
Couple of others not worth mentioning

This season, I am using an older pair of Nike basketball shoes I had that is still in pretty good shape despite playing basketball in them for the past few years (primarily indoor).

In addition, I broke in a pair of Nike Shox running shoes ($110 retail at Foot Locker) last week. They were surprisingly comfortable and I like them. They are pricey and you can't get discounts on the shoe. However, I make use of my credit card rewards to either get money back or get gift cards to foot locker and that helps offset the high price of the shoe. :)

I am wearing adidas a3 microride leather. I love them, but found out they aren't making them anymore.

Gotta find what works for you and go with it...just becasue others like it doesn't mean it will feel good for your feet.

This is the same shoe I am using. I love them. I found out early in the summer the shoes were being discontinued during the summer, so I bought another pair. This is one of the lightest and most comfortable shoes I have ever refereed in.

Peace

What about the best way to shine your shoes and get them nice a bright? :)

What's the best product out there?

swkansasref33 Tue Dec 04, 2007 01:21am

I went with the Pentagon Sports Court Shoes from Honigs. I like em, and I think they are pretty sweet lookin.

I personally like the Kiwi Leather Cuir, "Premiere Shine Ultra-Brillant." I have some shoes that have a little white or gray on them so I will use the neutral color for those shoes. This seems to work the best for me. I guess I will have to reference what everyone does across the country or what the NF had requires. Sorry if that is a personal preference and I do not consider what everyone does across the country. :D

I am using the New Balance 888. This is a really nice comfortable shoe.

I have used Leather Luster in the past. Takes a while to apply the first time, but then you're done.

THis year, I tried Shape-Up (or maybe it's Shine Up?). Easier to apply than LL, but doesn't seem to be holding up as well. The jury is still out.

hoosierinPA Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:16am

Go to Nike.com and design your own, you can even get them monogrammed. That is what I did, when someone swiped my brand new kicks last year from the locker room

Is this shoe leather on the outside? It looks like its suade or something similar. Are you able to shine it up? It's a good price online so I was thinking of getting them but they only have Mustang Brown/Gold and a grey one.

That is the exact shoe style but it is not the exact shoe. The shoe I have was a Finish Line exclusive that I own and it is all leather.

Shoes

I wear New Balance mainly because I have a wide foot and it is the only shoe I can get in my actual size (11). I order them in 4E width. Also, the NB store by me gave $10 off for officials.

Nike Shox R4, Very comfortable.

Back In The Saddle Tue Dec 04, 2007 02:41pm

I've worn NB for the past few years, but they stopped making what I used to wear. So I am trying a pair of their new 888's. I hated them the first night out. I get the 4E witdth, and that usually fits quite nicely. But these are a little roomier than I'm used to. And they don't seem to have quite the cushioning that previous models have had.

So...

Bought a pair of Spenco inserts, put them under the liner that came with the shoes (which solved a problem with a slight gap between the insert and the side of the shoe), and now I love 'em. Haven't even had to polish them yet because they're shinier than previous models.

It is actually a synthetic leather and is harder to shine than traditional leather, but like Jeff said, it is a great shoe. I have another pair still in the box, but will have to find a new style to wear.

Most shoes nowadays are synthetic and that is not a major issue. And if you use many shining techniques, you can still have a great shine.

Problem with official's shirt: How do you keep your shirt tucked in properly if you are wearing a compression shirt underneath ... any ideas?

Am I missing something here?

IREFU2 Wed Dec 05, 2007 12:03pm

I use the military garders (spelling??), They attach to the shirt and then loop around your feet. You can adjust them to keep your shirt nice and tight.

ronny mulkey Wed Dec 05, 2007 12:13pm

858

Am using a NB 858. it is a cross between a running shoe and and a cross trainor. it is not an all leather shoe, but it is the most comfortable NB or any other shoe that I have wever worn.

Mine just stays tucked in.

Some use the "flex belt." Most "sansabelt" type pants have a rubber insert on the waistband.

If your shirt and pants fit properly, it won't come out from normal officiating activities.
