Off ball foul on made basket (NCAA)

Fan here with a question about a play I saw in an NCAA game:

As an offensive player is shooting a three, a defensive player who is fighting through a screen away from the ball commits a foul. I know that you'll either award the ball back to the offense or they'll shoot free throws depending on the bonus situation. But, what determines whether the basket counts?

I assume that the ball must be out of the shooter's hands before the contact occures. Is that correct? Thanks in advance.

Baskets good. Score it and resume play out of bounds or bonus........

Whether or not the shooting motion has been started by the shooter (which it sounds like it has in your description). If it has, the try has started, and will count if it goes.

That would only be true if the off-ball foul was by an offensive player.
