Coaches sub-varsity

I more question, for now anyways...

I think the NFHS just refers to head coaches, regardless of level, but can head JV, soph, frosh, head coaches stand while coaching their team...within the confines of the coaches box, of course.

Depends on what your state says, but I've never heard of a state where this is allowed only at the varsity level.

Seat belt in all levels except varsity. 14 foot box in varsity (boys and girls).

WI, non-V head coaches must be in physical contact with the bench/chair at all times.

Meaning, they can stand, but must stay close enough that their leg/butt (depending on height) is still touching bench?

No, they are technically subject to the seat belt since they aren't granted use of the coaching box.

I've seen subvarsity officials completely ignore this while waiting for my game, BTW.

I've had varsity refs say kneeling in front with a finger on the bench will do.
WIAA sez, "in physical contact."

Younger officials either are too concerned with play on the court or too scared to take action. It's problematic because the sub-v coaches are the ones needing the rule the most.

Depends on the state. But oveall, yes, same rules for all levels Varsity, JV, Freshman etc.

Some states say they can stand, and have 1 foot outside the box, others say, both feet in the box. I believe Pa. doesn't allow coaches to stand suring the game. I like that.

I'd like that too, but unfortunately PA has turned coaches "free-range" by adopting a box rule like the rest of the states.

I was inches from tripping over both JV coaches tonight on a fast break, and after the next stoppage, we had a little discussion about how they really needed to stay behind the orange line.

1. The NFHS rules book is written for VARSITY contests. Says so right in the front. So it is up to each state to decide what rules to apply to their sub-varsity games. NV treats all HS games the same rulewise.

2. PA used to make their coaches sit, but a couple of years ago adopted the coaching box.
