sliding with the ball
 

I know it is not a travel to dive for a ball and slide, but what about if as you are sliding you roll from your stomach to your back? We had a player do that in practice today and I don't have my book here to look it up.

Hard to call without being there, but if he is still truly sliding there is no travel. If he is really "rolling", then he is really no longer sliding and it would be a travel. IMO

This came up in a recent clinic we had. We were told that if the player rolls over while still sliding (ie: one continuous motion), it is not a violation. However, once they stop sliding, that's it.

That is what I thought. He was most definitely still sliding as he rolled to his back, and then stopped.

The way you described it would result in NO violation because it was part of the slide.

This is one of the top 20 misapplied rules in the game. no violation. See the case I cited previously.

If you judge that the momentum of the "slide" caused the player to roll over, then it's legal. If you judge that the player deliberately rolled over to keep the ball away from an opponent or to gain some other advantage, then it's traveling. It's a htbt judgment call iow.

... and if this happens and you have nothing the gym lets you hear it.

And who cares what the gym says anyway? The gym thinks a legal jump stop should be called traveling.

Really? I've never heard anything from the gym itself. ;)

The "gym" is going to let you have over alot of things. I'm not sure what your point is.
