Maui yesterday;Orlando today

Mark Whitehead & Ed Hightower worked the Maui Invitational Championship game (Duke vs Marquette) yesterday (11/21) and are working the George Mason vs Kansas St. game in Orlando today (11/22) at the Old Spice Classic......3 days in Maui and 3 days in Orlando is good work if you can get it!

Ed is making sure we all know he's there tonight, too...

*Sorry, just a little soap box moment for me*

I've just got issues with the way Ed makes sure everyone in the gym and everyone watching on TV knows he's there. I think the last few years have not been kind to his officiating legacy, and he epitomizes the official who reaches out to call plays he should just stay out of.

I'm amazed that someone would criticize Hightower when there are other officials who either do the same thing or other things that stand out. And no, I'm not just talking about Welmer!

He's certainly not the only one. Just the one I was watching at the time. The reason he's one of the officials I don't care to watch is probably that I used to have so much respect for the way he called the game.

Welmer has always been Welmer in my eyes. Hightower used to be great.

I'll also admit that, as a Big 12/Big 10 guy, both Welmer and Hightower have officiated games I've enjoyed watching as a fan-boy. I have no problem admitting that colors my opinion.

I can understand that. Many people think Welmer is my least favorite official when that isn't true. There is an official out west I really don't like.

There is a reason Ed and other officials with his resume continue to work tournaments like this. You personally might not like it, but someone does.

And I am with Tommy; Ed is not the only official that does the things you are accused of. And he is not the only one that works in the Big Ten or Big 12 that does this either.

Peace

I think that the travel for that and the time change for back to back days is absolutely insane. A 6 hour time change and 12 hours in the air between games on back to back days is nuts. I don't know how they were able to do it.

First class, baby!
You catch the red eye from OGG (Maui), and the first flight out from LAX. Sleepin' and drinkin'!
