NCAA relaxed about white on shoes?

This may be a small thing to many, but has the NCAA taken a relaxed view of "all black shoes"? Because I saw some white on TV last night, and now I see Steve Welmer has huge white swooshes on his shoes tonight.

Not a big deal to me, just wondering if there is any policy about color on the shoes for NCAA?

Looks like Welmer has added Nike to his endorsement contract list. He already has one with ESPN.

No they have not.

The CCA Men's Basketball Manual says that officials can wear solid black shoes or shoes approved by a conference. As far as I have known, this has pretty much always been the case.

Peace

The NCAA doesn't care one way or the other.

Is this kind of thing preference of individual conferences? Or just an accepted practice now that a bit of color on the shoes is no big deal?

I do not know if there has ever been a big deal made about this. I have watched ESPN Classic games and I have seen many games where the officials had more white on their shoes than you see now (e.g. games from the 80s). I do not think there has ever been this standard that you see at the HS level or with the NF mechanics. Also the reality is officials usually do not only work for one conference. I doubt that conferences are going to prohibit their officials from what they wear that much different then what is expected in most parts of the county.

Peace

That's cool. I'm probably just paying more attention as I hadn't noticed it before the last two years...
