26 Year Gap I think it got banned around the time it was banned in college--sometime in the 1960s. [Lew Alcindor's fault] I was a sophomore in college when in was re-instated for college. [1976-77--which was my first year officiating the first time around]. I am not sure when it became legal again in HS, though.
Jurassic Referee Iirc, the NFHS followed the NCAA's lead both in banning and re-instating the dunk, but about a year later on both occasions. The period was the late 60's to the mid 70's.
BktBallRef I have a friend who's a newspaper reporter. He's doing a story on dunking for his preseason edition. That's why I need specific dates.

There's a list of "major changes" in one of the front sections of either the Handbook or the Mechanics manual. Someone who has that handy could look it up.
Coltdoggs When I was playing in the late 80's, I couldn't dunk.... Sadly, it didn't have anything to do with the rules! 😀
Jesse James High School dunking was illegal beginning the 1967-68 season--became legal again in the '76-'77 season.
Ref in PA In Tennessee it was illegal to dunk in HS for the 76-77 season (and before). I do not know when the rule was changed to allow dunking again. That was my senior year in HS.
