One just has to wonder what "expective" was used. Wonder what would happen to the athlete if the official approached the coach or AD and said "Your player told me that I made several *#$&%(#@ calls last night." My guess is....nothing.

I guess authority has to be held to a higher standard?

give the player a towel!

Brian Watson Mon Jan 28, 2002 03:30pm

What I find interesting is that this player admits to questioning and showing up of the officials. While I don't think they should use profanity toward a player, they are all adult men, and I don't see what the problem is. How many times do we tell players jawing at us to suck it up and play on?

Sounds like this has been blown way out of proportion.

and I love the "if they weren't out to get me we would have won" comment.

Should be a higher standard

Keeping in mind that all this is allegations, etc...

The official should be held to a higher standard. In no way should the official curse a player--regardless of the level. Yeah there is a double standard, but as a community we should not defend this action.

Did the alleged act(s) affect the outcome of the game? Undoubtedly not. Did the action affect the perception of the officials in the game? Undoubtedly yes.

As an official, I would certainly take umbrage if a player came and told me "Get your A** in position so you can make that call." As an official, I have recourse, though. I can assess a technical foul. What recourse does the player have? His only recourse is what has happened with the Big East Conference after the fact.

An unnecessary and uncalled for situation.

Sometimes it would be nice to tell a player exactly that... Shut the ________ up and play ball. and oh ___ if he took offense about being told to get his ____ up off the floor or he would get a T, then I say next time T his ____ up and throw His _____ out of the game so that he will have to sit out the next _______ game and then he might figure out how the ____ to shut his _____ mouth and play the ________ game.

I agree, give him a towel and let him become bench personal. Uncalled for situation, he needs to grow up!

Don't think I'd let him stay on the bench, but rather send him in for an early shower.
