running baseline

Can the person inbounding the ball after the opposing team makes the last foul shot run the baseline and can they run the baseline if the foul shot completely missed the backboard and became dead(nfhs)?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Yes to Q 1
No to Q 2

Yes and no

Yes to the first part of the question and no to the second part.
After a made or awarded goal or freethrow the opposing team is allowed the run of the endline for the throw-in.
On the missed freethrow the violation for missing everything results in a spot throwin.

we had one play when I was in HS after a made basket (incl. free throw) when they were pressing where we would have one player take the ball under the basket and have two others go to the baseline corners OOB. The "in-bounder" would pass along the baseline to one of the corners and him and the other corner would cut diagonals and recieve the inbound pass. This play works really well after a DOG warning has been issued.

Baseline

In basketball, baseline refers to the bottom of the rectangle that is painted on the backboard. It is in the section of the rule book that talks about equipment.
Sorry you had to wait so loooooooooooooong.:D

Yeah, but ONLY the rulebook refers to that as the baseline. The rest of humanity uses baseline interchangeably with endline.

What's the purpose of naming that particular line? Does that line have any purpose with regard to the rules?

Once upon a time it was very important to the game. I'm sure. Like three seconds. And the jump ball.

There's a Baseline Road in Phoenix, AZ; Boulder, CO; Ottowa, Ontario; Tempe, AZ; Hillsboro, OR; South Haven, MI; and probably others as well. Care to specify which one you're interested in?:D

Juulie - Baseline Road continues from Hillsboro into Beaverton before it becomes Jenkins Road. You'd probably know that if you lived on the snobby west side like me. ;)
