A question: I though that when someone gets fouled before the ball is put
into play that is an automatic 2 foul shots. Twice in the last 10 seconds
UCLA fouled Wethers with the ball out of bounds, and he shot 1-1 each
time. Was this the right call?

Under NF rules, any foul that occurs while the ball is dead is a technical foul (4-19-5c) except a foul by an airborne shooter (i believe that NCAA Men's doesn't have an airborne shooter rule, so i don't what they do there).

If the ball was at the disposal of the inbounder, however, the ball was live and, thus, a common foul can occur. I didn't see the play to which you're referring, but i imagine that's what happened.

When the ball is dead, contact is ignored, unless it is intentional or flagrant -- which is a two-shot foul.

But, on a throw-in, the ball is live once it is handed or bounced to the player. COntact here is *usually* just a common foul. One and one. (Yes, there is a provision for this to be intentional. I didn't see the game, so I can't comment on whether I think the fouls you are referring to qulaified.)
